ASYO musicians are expected to demonstrate respectful behavior toward conductors, coaches, administrative staff, volunteers, and fellow students at all times. Respect for the rehearsal and performance spaces—including all rules and property of Asheville High School and any other venues we use—is equally important.
Behavior that endangers others or demonstrates blatant disrespect will not be tolerated and may result in immediate dismissal from the program. Likewise, any intentional damage to property or disregard for venue policies may be considered grounds for expulsion.
With traffic in the Asheville High School area of Asheville, it's easy to get delayed. Please try to leave yourself plenty of time to arrive before the time your rehearsal begins to get set up, etc.
When picking up students from Victoria Road please pull far enough down to allow for cars to get off of Victoria Road. If you are coming early, please park in one of the lots at the top in order to allow traffic to keep moving.
Please remember to bring a music stand with you to rehearsal. Although Asheville High School does own a fair number of music stands (as does the ASYO) we don't have enough for all members of the ASYO.
You will not need your cell phone during rehearsals. Please leave it in your case and NOT on your stand or on your person. You may use your phone during breaks. Please purchase a separate tuner for your stand if you need one and do not rely on your cell phone.
There is ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINK (other than water) allowed in the high school auditorium or in the classrooms (rehearsal spaces) at Asheville High School. Please finish all food and drink in the hallway before entering the rehearsal space.
During rehearsals students are not allowed in the seating area of the auditorium other than to exit the space to use the restroom or to go to sectionals. Absolutely no one is allowed in the balcony. Violating auditorium guidelines/directions could result in your removal from the ensemble.
After Rehearsals please tidy-up your area. Using Asheville High School on Monday evening depends on there being no significant impact whatsoever to teachers arriving for their classes on Tuesday morning. Students should help put up all the chairs in your area, pick up any trash, watch for lost items, and make sure that the space is ready to go for classes at 8:00 AM the following morning.
Musicians must be picked up by a parent immediately after each rehearsal and concert unless other transportation has been arranged, such as a carpool or if the student plans to drive themselves.
